Padel tournament formats: which one to choose
Not all padel tournaments are played the same. Choosing the format well makes the difference between a fun event and an eternal one. This is the comparison.
1. Americano
The pairs rotate in each round and the scoring is individual. Ideal for: social events, mix levels and have everyone play a lot. Read more at what is an americano.
2. Mexicano
Americano variant in which the pairings of each round are made according to the standings: those who go first face each other, and so on. 3. All against all (league / round-robin)
Each pair (fixed) plays against all the others. Ideal for: small groups that want a clear champion and many guaranteed matches. It requires more time the more pairs there are.
4. Direct elimination
Classic tableau: whoever loses is eliminated, until the final. Ideal for: tournaments with many pairs and limited time, or for a final phase after a group stage. Its con: those eliminated play little.
5. Combined formats
The most common thing in serious tournaments: a group stage (league) to qualify, followed by a finals phase by elimination. Brings together the best of both worlds.

How many courts do I need for a tournament?
The more courts, the more simultaneous games and less waiting. As a rule of thumb: 1 court for every 4 players maintains a comfortable pace. With fewer fields the tournament continues to function, it just lasts longer.
