Scoring system in padel (and in tournaments)

15, 30, 40? Golden point? And how are points counted in an Americano? We clarify the padel scoring, inside and outside the tournaments.

Scoring of a padel match

Padel inherits the scoring of tennis. Within each games: 15, 30, 40 and game. If there is a tie at 40 (deuce), or you play with advantages, or with gold point (the next point decides the game), increasingly common due to its speed.

Games and sets

Win the set who reaches 6 games with 2 difference. At 6-6 a tie-breaker (7 points with 2 difference). The matches are usually the best of 3 sets.

The golden point

In the golden point there are no advantages: with a tie at 40, the receiving team chooses the side and a single point decides the game. It speeds up matches and is the standard in many tournaments and on the professional circuit.

Score in tournaments: Americano and league

In a americano sets are not counted, but individual points: Each round is played to a fixed number of points (24 or 32 are the most common) and each player accumulates the points they win. Whoever adds the most at the end wins.

In one league (all against all) is usually scored by games won, using the difference in games as the first tiebreaker.

Tiebreakers: define them before you start

To avoid messes, set the order of criteria before the first match: total points → game difference → head-to-head → tiebreaker golden point.
